You may know that Ferrari builds cars to go racing. It’s obvious that the Scuderia Ferrari is enjoying one of its best seasons in Formula 1 with the F1-75, but did you know that it also has a fairly successful stint in the FIA World Endurance Championship?
The manufacturer has been entering these races under the LM GTE (Grand Touring Endurance) class since 2011. It has put out several very successful race cars like the 458 Italia GT2/GT3 and the 488 GT3/GTE. Curiously, we never saw the F8 Tributo (the 488’s successor) get turned into a GTE racer, with the company introducing the 488 GT3 Evo instead.
Thankfully, we’re getting a new racer based on the brand-new 296 GTB called the 296 GT3, which will be making its debut at racetracks next year.

This successor to the 488 GT3 will utilize the same 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 from the road car sans the hybrid system. It probably won’t have the same pure straight-line speed as the road car, but it will make up for it in the corners thanks to the improvements in aerodynamics.
Ferrari will be partnering with Oreca (a French race car constructor) to assemble these cars, and the automaker has just released a few photos of the car clad in black-and-red camo getting a shakedown at the Fiorano test track.
WEC fans will also have another Ferrari race car to look forward to next year aside from the 296 GT3, as it is also developing a Le Mans Hypercar prototype with the AF Corse racing team.
If anything, it seems like a great year to be a Ferrari fan even outside of F1.
