Ford PH launches 13th-generation F-150 pickup truck

Company president explains why we’re getting the outgoing model

If you read our two recent articles on the Ford F-150, you already know two things: first, that Ford Philippines is bringing in the current (outgoing) 13th-generation model instead of the all-new version that will be revealed globally this weekend, and second, that the F-150 for our market will be powered by a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 gasoline engine rated at 375hp and 637Nm. This engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with SelectShift.

We also mentioned, in passing, the two variants, which turned out to be correct:

  • 4×2 Lariat – P2,698,000
  • 4×4 Platinum – P2,998,000

Now, last Monday, Ford Philippines president and managing director PK Umashankar gave VISOR a personalized 15-minute presentation of his company’s new vehicle. We have to commend Ford for this one-on-one media interview—a huge improvement over the PowerPoint lecture staged for the Everest Sport last month. The Ford boss gamely answered our questions—not taken and screened in advance, mind you—albeit with the help of some script (which was really fine by us).

Watch the video of this interview to learn why the American automaker’s distributor is giving us the outgoing F-150 instead of the upcoming 14th-generation model.

What do you think?
