Toyota is back in F1 with technical partnership with Haas

This multiyear partnership is to benefit both firms

If you watched Formula 1 in the early 2000s, you know that Toyota was a factory-backed team known as Panasonic Toyota Racing that had some notable drivers such as Jarno Trulli, Timo Glock, Kamui Kobayashi, and Ralf Schumacher race for them.

The Japanese manufacturer hasn’t had a presence on the grid since 2009, due to the economic climate of the time.

But that all changes today as Toyota Gazoo Racing makes a momentous return to the sport as a technical partner to the Haas F1 team, and it is effective immediately.

Could this be the beginning of a potential return to a works team? PHOTO FROM FORMULA 2

For those expecting a full works team, no, this is not it (though, as always, things may change in the near future).

This multiyear agreement between Haas and Toyota Gazoo Racing will mean that the two firms will share expertise, resources, and knowledge. Toyota aids in design, technical, and manufacturing to Haas, while the latter will offer technical expertise and commercial benefits.

And for those wondering about Haas’s long-standing partnership with Scuderia Ferrari, it will continue to supply engines to the team.

Toyota Gazoo Racing has a bit of presence in Formula 2 as it has Ritomo Miyata as its driver racing for Rodin Motorsport. This means that we can possibly see the team make even bigger moves in the future.

Either way, expect Toyota Gazoo Racing branding on the cars of Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen in Austin next weekend for the United States Grand Prix.
