While Haas F1 isn’t known for its regular presence at the podium, it certainly has its own legion of fans thanks to Guenther Steiner. The long-serving team principal and his colorful language have been featured extensively on the popular Netflix series Formula 1: Drive to Survive. Sadly, we won’t be seeing him walking the paddock anymore as his tenure with the US-based team has just come to an end.
Steiner held management roles at Jaguar and Red Bull before joining Haas from its inception as team principal. His time has certainly not been easy given the American outfit’s checkered history and heavy reliance on off-the-shelf components. But that’s not to say his term was fruitless. Haas showed occasional bouts of competitiveness with 249 points, two fastest laps, and a single pole position under its belt.
Taking over the helm is Ayao Komatsu. Just like Steiner, Komatsu has extensive experience in the sport with stints at British American Racing and Renault. Having in-depth knowledge of Haas’s organizational and operational challenges, it will be interesting to see how he plans to turn the team into something that can consistently finish in the points.
