The subcompact crossover market just got a whole lot more interesting with the addition of an electrified Chery Tiggo 5X Pro. Previewed to the public at this year’s Manila International Auto Show, this is part of Chery Auto Philippines‘ push for electrifying all of its ICE vehicles in its lineup.
Compared to the other subcompact crossovers that push for a sportier, more aggressive appearance, the Tiggo 5X Pro separates itself with a more posh and dignified look.
It has a new Diamond Galaxy grille, LED headlights with DRLs, power-folding side mirrors, integrated load-bearing roof rails, and lots of chrome all around. It also rides on 18-inch wheels shod with 215/55-profile tires.
It also sports a luxurious cabin with synthetic leather upholstery, ambient lighting, a six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a sunroof, a power tailgate, and an N95 cabin filter.
Tech-wise, it has a 10.25-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, and wireless charging. It also has safety features like a 360° camera, cruise control, six airbags, electronic stability program, hill-assist and hill-descent control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system.
Now, the Tiggo 5X Pro comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged in-line-four gasoline engine mated to a CVT. The biggest selling point is a 48V belt-starter generator motor, turning this vehicle into a mild hybrid.
Power output is rated at 154hp and 230Nm, but the focus is on fuel efficiency and lower emissions, thanks to a regenerative braking system and an engine start-stop system.
The Tiggo 5X Pro is priced at P1.14 million for the Hybrid (or mild hybrid, to be precise) variant, but there is also a non-electrified variant, the Comfort, which costs P940,000.
Also shown off was the Tiggo 7 Pro Hybrid, which is an electrified version of the crossover that was introduced in 2021.
Apart from small exterior changes and tech updates like a wireless charger, a 360° camera, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, most of the changes are found in the powertrain. It is also a mild-hybrid affair, similar to its smaller sibling.
It mates a 1.5-liter turbocharged in-line-four gasoline engine and a CVT to a 48V belt-starter generator system, giving the car a healthy output of 156hp and 230Nm. This is priced at P1,350,000, but you can also get a non-electrified Tiggo 7 Pro for P1,250,000.
Both of these vehicles come with a five-year/150,000km general warranty, with three years of free PMS and roadside assistance, alongside a 10-year/1,000,000km engine warranty.
