Chery Auto Philippines, the Chinese brand’s distributor in the country, showed off its wide range of crossovers at the 2022 Manila International Auto Show. The company intends to shake up the seven-seat crossover segment by launching its latest flagship models: the Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV.
The flagship Tiggo 8 Pro features a refreshed look. Up front, you’d see the European-inspired diamond grille flanked by LED headlamps. Open it up and a plush interior greets you, made with top-notch materials. Behind the D-shaped leather-wrapped steering wheel is a seven-inch digital instrument cluster. Front and center is a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay capability and eight speakers. Three USB ports and a wireless charger can juice up your gadgets.
The Tiggo 8 Pro gets a bigger 1.6-liter turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline engine that does 183hp and 275Nm. That’s 37hp and 65Nm more. This is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It also has an extensive suite of safety features. But what stands out are the advanced driver-assistance systems available.
All of these come at a price, but an unbelievable one. The Tiggo 8 Pro retails for P1,645,000.
But the biggest surprise has to be the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV. It loses some of the features of the 8 Pro, but gets an advanced hybrid powertrain. A smaller 1.5-liter engine makes 155hp and 230Nm, and is paired with two motors. This is said to be good for 90km of full EV range, and an unbelievable 100km/L of fuel consumption. And all of these can be had for P2,400,000.
And if you’re still not sold with the brand’s reliability, Chery throws in an impressive warranty package. A 10-year/1,000,000km engine warranty, a five-year/150,000km vehicle warranty, and free three-year preventive maintenance service and roadside assistance. So…Chinese car, anyone?
