Prices start at P2.328 million for the manual transmission variant

If you were present at the second leg of the GR Vios Cup, you were probably treated to the sight of Toyota Motor Philippines‘ Gazoo Racing lineup, which included its GR Performance models taking to the track, including the all-new GR86.

To reiterate, the GR86 comes with a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat-four engine with a power output of 234hp and torque of 250Nm, mated to either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission.

Both come with a MacPherson strut suspension up front, a double-wishbone suspension setup at the back, and limited-slip differential for the handling department. And if you’re wondering, the GR86’s suspension tuning is a little more drift-happy than its Subaru cousin.

The manual transmission variant costs P2.328 million, and comes with fabric seats and 17-inch alloy wheels shod by Michelin Primacy HP rubber.

The automatic transmission variant costs P2.499 million, and has more luxuries such as sharp-looking, black 18-inch wheels wrapped by stickier Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rubber; Ultrasuede/leather upholstery; and the GR Active Safety Suite that includes a pre-collision system, automatic high beams, lane departure alert, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and dynamic radar cruise control.

Anoraks will be quick to point out that the car’s feature set is similar to Subaru’s EyeSight, considering that its stablemate, the BRZ, also comes with that for its automatic variant. Plus, both vehicles come with vehicle stability control and a hill-start assist control, so you don’t have to worry about rolling back into someone on an incline.

It will come in seven different colors. For no extra charge, you can choose between Sapphire Blue Pearl, Bright Blue, Magnetite Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Silica, and Ice Silver Metallic. Crystal White Pearl is an additional P15,000 premium, but if you want the car finished in Ignition Red, you’ll have to cough up P20,000 more.

And yes, if you managed to sneak in a preorder last August 6 or missed out on it, you need not worry, as the vehicle is now available at any of the Toyota GR Performance Dealerships nationwide.
