For the longest time, we’ve looked at Suzuki as a manufacturer of cute, practical, and very fuel-efficient small cars. But at the 2022 Philippine International Motor Show, the Japanese carmaker gave us a glimpse of the brand’s vision and entry into the world of electrification.

First up, there are six vehicles at the booth. This includes the S-Presso Special Edition, the recently launched Celerio, the XL7, the Dzire, and the very popular Jimny. But there is one unassuming vehicle that took the spotlight from the adorable mini SUV.

During the carmaker’s presentation, Suzuki Philippines took the wraps off a “special model” that it had teased on social media. From the outside, the Ertiga Hybrid that was presented didn’t look too different from its “regular” version.

It has a different grille design, redesigned 15-inch wheels, some optional bodykit, and new tailgate trim. Some other subtle additions include a 360° camera system and a bigger infotainment screen.

Yes, this version of the Ertiga is a special mild-hybrid version of the vehicle. The Ertiga Hybrid will have an internal-combustion engine, paired with its Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system. This includes an integrated starter generator, which fires up the motor, provides additional power, and captures kinetic energy through regenerative braking. The recovered energy can juice up the onboard battery pack. Additionally, an engine start-stop system will be available, which can further improve fuel efficiency.

Not much information about the Ertiga Hybrid’s specifications and pricing was provided. We don’t even know if this particular model will be making its way to our shores. But this shows the future for the brand, which means electrified vehicles will be made available to Filipino customers.

Other attractions at the pavilion include games for visitors like the Suzuki Wheel of Fortune and the Suzuki Buzz Wire Challenge. The brand’s entire lineup will also be available for test drives. Finally, special sales promos for the Dzire, the Celerio, and the Ertiga are offered at the event.
