Mercedes-Benz Vision V lets you play chess in the grandest van ever designed

Still a concept vehicle for now, but it tells us where the luxury brand is heading

One of the most amazing vehicles that greeted visitors at Auto Shanghai 2025 was the Mercedes-Benz Vision V. The concept is easily the grandest van you will ever lay eyes on. Whether in person or in photos—whether outside or inside—this Merc is guaranteed to send your jaw dropping to the floor.

Yes, it is a luxury van. But certainly not your usual luxury van. PHOTOS FROM MERCEDES-BENZ

This show car was meant to communicate the carmaker’s Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) platform, expected to be rolled out in 2026.

If you’re impressed with the exterior, wait till you see the cabin: a hedonistic lounge, a retractable 65-inch cinema screen, 42 surround-sound speakers, and seven immersive projectors.

Let’s just say you would likely not want to leave this vehicle once you entered its futuristic space.

We can spend weeks inside this vehicle. Seriously. PHOTOS FROM MERCEDES-BENZ

My favorite feature? A premium chessboard to help you kill time with a co-passenger in traffic.

This feature—in the author’s eyes—checkmates other luxury vans in the world. PHOTOS FROM MERCEDES-BENZ

This is the most otherworldly van I’ve ever seen. If Mercedes-Benz produces even just half of the features we see here, then this will be worth the visit to any car show—China or elsewhere.
