Alpina officially becomes a stand-alone brand of the BMW Group

The start of 2026 marks a new chapter for both Bavarian brands

Seven years before BMW established the M division, Alpina had been refining and enhancing models from the Bavarian car manufacturer, creating bi-turbocharged monsters under an understated body.

In 2022, BMW acquired the renowned tuning brand from the Bovensiepen family, but with undisclosed terms that were set to end on December 31, 2025. As 2026 rolled in, so did a new name: BMW Alpina.

The new name, together with the Munich-based giant, signifies a transformation for the now 61-year-old tuning company, while ensuring its bespoke nature remains intact. For owners of past Alpina models, the original headquarters in Buchloe will continue to manage after-sales and customer support as Alpina Classic.

This announcement came as more of a tease and announcement of a new trademark from both marques, so not much else has been said about the new direction or models. Will the revamped BMW Alpina in the future be seen as a new Mercedes-Maybach competitor, or an all-around performer just as it has been for six decades?
