Bentley has named its first fully electric production car the Torcal, which will make its global debut in London on September 23.

The Torcal will become Bentley’s fourth model line alongside the Continental GT, the Flying Spur, and the Bentayga. It marks the start of Bentley’s next era.

Like the Bentayga and the limited-production Bacalar and Batur before it, the Torcal is named after a natural landmark—El Torcal de Antequera in Spain, known for its distinctive limestone rock formations. The name continues Bentley’s recent tradition of drawing inspiration from natural landmarks. It also traces its roots to the Latin word torquere, meaning “to twist,” from which the word “torque” is derived—a fitting nod to an electric vehicle.

Bentley is using a different approach to Torcal’s sound. Instead of creating artificial engine noise, the company studied the character of its V8 engines and concluded that their appeal had more to do with rhythm than outright volume. As part of the research, the development team compared the sound of a Bentley V8 with a live drummer.

The result is a soundtrack created using real instruments, including drums, viola, and bass guitar. It responds to the driver’s inputs to give the Torcal its own distinct sound.
