Drool over this Mazda Spirit Racing x Seiko collab

Only 300 pieces will be made

When automakers collaborate with watchmakers, the products either come off as a lazy branding exercise or something the two put a lot of effort into making.

And if you take a look at this collaboration between Mazda Spirit Racing and Seiko, it’s obvious that this falls into the latter.

Okay, it's quartz, but it's a very elegant-looking timepiece. PHOTOS FROM MAZDA SPIRIT RACING

Reference number BF9679 is a quartz chronograph that retails for ¥69,300 (P26,540).

If the nonsolar quartz movement (8T63) with a battery life of three years hasn’t turned you off yet, you’ll be delighted by the elegance of the rest of the watch. The black stainless steel case measures 47mm high and 39.8mm wide, is 20mm from lug to lug, and is waterproof up to 100m.

The hardlex crystal houses the simple dial inspired by the gauges of the MX-5. The Mazda type font is used across the rest of the watch, and the Mazda Spirit Racing logo is engraved on the caseback.

It's one of the more subdued collaboration watches to come out. PHOTOS FROM MAZDA SPIRIT RACING

The blue-gray dial is free of any indices, only housing the three subdials. Red accents adorn the two seconds hands, the top pusher, and the two available straps (one leather and one fabric NATO strap).

All of these are housed in an equally elegant packaging that can also be used as a display case.

It's probably easier to buy it online, but you'll have to jump through all the hoops of having it shipped. PHOTO FROM MAZDA SPIRIT RACING

There is a catch, though. Only 300 pieces will be made, but 290 will be sold.

Out of that total, 150 will be available online, while the remaining 140 will be sold at in-person events.

Sales will commence on October 19 (1pm Japan Standard Time), and if you know someone who will be going to the Fan Festa 2024 at Fuji Speedway, that is where the initial batch of watches will be sold.

Oh, and it’s only limited to one piece per person, too. You dig?
