9 dashcams to pick from (2024 edition)

Same same, but with slightly improved tech

Here are a few new dashcams to pick from if you need one. PHOTO FROM 70MAI

In this day and age, having a dash camera is a no-brainer if you plan to tackle the lawless roads of Metro Manila. So much so that there are vehicles that come with one built-in, included from the factory or as a freebie that your dealership throws in.

But if you’ve bought a new car without one or you’re replacing your old dashcam because it broke down, choices are aplenty.

Compared to before, prices of dual dash cameras have gone down since, essentially making them practical accessories. Features such as improved image quality, built-in memory, parking modes, and GPS functionality have trickled down.

We’re beginning to see new features such as 4G connectivity (with a separate SIM card), HDR, moving cameras, more telemetry, and even digital overlays.

Like before, we’re listing them with their official prices from official sources/stores, but you might be able to see them at cheaper prices depending on the season.

Mirror-mounted dash cameras are good if you don't have a compatible head unit or want a clean look, but they come with drawbacks. IMAGE FROM BEST BUY

If there’s one type of dashcam that is absent from this list, it’s those that go on top of your rearview mirror.

The reflectivity of these isn’t as good because they have to account for the screen behind. Also, fingerprints for those that operate via touch will just make visibility worse, and it can cause your mirror to sag in the long run.

Plus, having a screen constantly displaying a feed of what’s behind you is just another source of distraction, so we wouldn’t actively recommend these.

But if all you want is additional eyes on the road and don’t care about fancy features, there’s nothing wrong with picking an older model to help you save money.
