The all-new Nissan Patrol (Y63) is finally here

Is this the new SUV king in our market?

When I was in Japan back in late 2023, I got a peep at the then upcoming Nissan Patrol, but never got any details except for a visual appreciation of its imposing presence and exterior good looks. Fast-forward to today and the all-new, seventh-generation Patrol is officially available in the Philippines and is a strong sign that Nissan is here to stay.

It’s longer (5,350mm), wider (2,115mm) and taller (1,945mm) than ever, trumping both its predecessor and its closest rival (you can take a wild guess). We’ll save all the numerical figures for a proper review later on. For now, let’s get started with an overview of the changes.

At the core of the new Patrol revs a powerful and buttery smooth 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged gasoline V6 pushing 425hp and 700Nm of torque. All that muscle is sent to the all-wheel drive system via a nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Nissan Philippines shares that the powertrain is now 23% more efficient but more powerful than the previous model with the larger V8 motor.

The interior redefines luxury and innovation in the segment. The dash is an all-digital affair with a 28.6-inch screen split into a 14.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.3 infotainment touchscreen. It comes with all the essentials like wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and Nissan Connect Services to keep you in touch with the vehicle even when you’re not in it.

Thanks to the 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor, driving the Patrol is much easier with high-resolution cameras covering all four corners including blind spots. For driving safety and convenience, Nissan’s ProPilot system keeps things in check and prevents mishaps on the road.

For added entertainment, two 12.8-inch screens are mounted behind the front seats. Elevating the audio experience to concert-like levels is a premium 12-speaker Klipsch system with DJX Virtual Surround Sound. This is something audiophiles will definitely enjoy.

Comfort and luxury abound with all three spacious rows enveloped in plush leather. Enhancing comfort is a Tri-Zone Automatic Climate Control system with Biometric Cooling Technology, which basically uses a camera-type sensor to read body temperatures of occupants and adjusts cabin climate conditions to optimal levels. That’s pretty nifty.

The Y63’s exterior radiates with road presence, showcasing the iconic V-motion front grille now flanked by double C-shaped LED headlamps matched with double C-shaped LED taillights. Its robust yet sleek body is complemented by handsome 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels.

Apart from the vehicle’s multi-terrain capabilities, another highlight is the adjustable air suspension. Aside from creating a magic-carpet ride experience and aiding the vehicle through varied terrain scenarios, vehicle height automatically lowers when entering or egressing for ease of all occupants.

The all-new Nissan Patrol is a thoughtfully and tastefully tailored luxury SUV that comes at an attractive price of P5,385,000. Units are available in Everest White with black roof (+P50,000), Everest White (+P30,000), Gun Metallic with black roof (+P20,000), and Granite Black. Nissan Philippines guarantees a warranty of 150,000km or five years, whichever comes first. Make sure to visit a Nissan dealer near you to see this legendary nameplate in all its evolved glory.
