Few companies dare to modify Ferraris, and even fewer manage to make a good job of it. German tuning house Novitec is certainly one of them, and the firm has teamed up with design legend Vittorio Strosek to give the Ferrari 296 GTB a new look and some more oomph.
A standard 296 isn’t exactly slim, but Novitec managed to make it 6cm wider at the front and a whopping 12cm at the rear, thanks to a new carbon-fiber bodykit.
Maybe that’s why they call this creation the Novitec N-Largo, because it certainly stands larger than life. All that carbon isn’t just for looks, though. The front fenders feature gill-like slits that help to channel hot air away from the brakes, and the new rear-axle flares feature larger ventilation openings to enhance airflow into the engine bay, along with bigger air ducts for improved brake cooling.
A new front improves aerodynamics and handling at high speeds, while a custom front trunk lid with integrated air ducts gives the front axle a little more downforce. The rear gets treated to a new diffuser, and customers can choose between a big, static carbon-fiber wing, a carbon cover for the retractable production wing, or a little ducktail spoiler for a more discreet look.
All of these bits feature the handwriting of Vittorio Strosek, a name that will be very familiar to fans of Porsches from the 1990s.
Novitec also gives the 296 new springs that lower the ride height by 35mm. To ensure all that shiny and expensive carbon fiber doesn’t get ripped off when you drive over anything bigger than a piece of gravel, the car also comes with a front axle lift.
The N-Largo rolls along on specially made Novitec NF11 NL rims that measure 21 inches at the front and 22 inches at the rear, developed in cooperation with American wheel specialist Vossen.
To match the performance to the new looks, Novitec has given the prancing horse high-flow turbo inlets, new 100-cell catalytic converters, and a high-performance exhaust system.
Those bits alone are enough to cram an extra 38hp under the hood, giving the N-Largo 868hp. It goes almost without saying that the new tailpipes come with an electronically controlled butterfly valve that lets the pilot adjust the soundtrack of this missile on the go.
On the inside, Novitec will trim the cabin to the wishes of the buyer, and of course, the outside can also be painted in any color the lucky new owner likes (although we think it looks quite good in yellow). If you now fancy one, then there’s some bad news: Only 15 N-Largos will be made, and all of them have been spoken for already.
As the Novitec website still lists the various individual parts, however, we think you could just buy all of them and make your own. If you have the money, that is.
