Mini PH releases the engine-less Aceman

An all-electric crossover for the premium small-car segment

Can you tell if a Mini is electric or ICE-powered? PHOTO FROM MINI

Mini Philippines has unveiled the first-ever all-electric Aceman. One look at this new Mini and it’s clear it harks back to the original model back in 1959, but with a much more dynamic appearance.

Large headlights along with the grille outline finished in Vibrant Silver make it unmistakably Mini, while its profile mimics that of its Cooper 5-Door and Clubman siblings, and its flexed proportions the Countryman. The Aceman also has the characteristic short overhangs, which should give it go-kart-like handling and maximum use of cabin space. Upright Union Jack taillights are as recognizable.

Prominent wheel-arch cladding with the rearward sweep, however, is unique to the Aceman. The overall design with broad surfaces not only emphasizes its distinctive look, but it also makes effective use of the car’s aerodynamic features as well.

The Aceman is just 4.07m long, 1.75m wide, and 1.5m tall. It sits between the Cooper and the Countryman.

A minimalist approach inside, meanwhile, reflects the clean surfaces of the exterior. Dubbed “Charismatic Simplicity,” the design direction traces its roots from the original Mini by way of three key elements—a steering wheel that’s easy to handle, a circular OLED display, and a row of toggle switches.

With a slant toward simplicity, the interior exhibits just the fundamentals. The central display measures 240mm in diameter, while the Mini Operating System 9 allows all driving functions to be operated by touch or voice.

Playfulness also adds to the vibe, with knitted surfaces and color contrasts. The interior also makes use of recycled materials, with the seats made of perforated Vescin, for example.

The Aceman is solely available with an all-electric drive. This being a Mini, of course, expect fun behind the wheel. It has an output of 160kW, generates 330Nm of torque, and can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 7.1 seconds.

The high-voltage battery has an energy content of 54.2kWh, providing a range of up to 407km according to the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).

Adding to the Aceman’s sporty handling is a damping system that ensures stability and enhances steering precision. The electric drive response of the accelerator is intended for sporty driving.

Yup, it is capable of looking like a hip club inside. PHOTOS FROM MINI

You also have seven Mini Experience Modes (Go-Kart, Vivid, Core, Green, Timeless, Balance, and Personal) to play with, which offer various suspension setups with ambient lighting altered depending on the Experience Mode selected.

The battery can be charged via alternating current with 11kW. Fast charging with direct current is possible with up to 95kW. At fast-charging stations, this allows charging from 10% to 80% in just under 30 minutes.

When Mini Navigation is switched on, the battery can be set to the ideal temperature for efficient charging ahead of time, which significantly reduces charging time (this depends on weather conditions, however).

The Mini Aceman is priced at P3,550,000, and is available for viewing at the Mini showrooms in Bonifacio Global City, Alabang Town Center, Pampanga, and Cebu.
