Suzuki has a knack for churning out stylish bikes both big and small that can perform while being priced competitively. Top models like the Hayabusa and the GSX-R are wickedly fast machines, and some of that styling DNA has trickled down to the newest member of the Gixxer series: the SF 155.
Sporting a sleek fairing, stylish wheels, and racy livery, the SF 155 is a small-displacement sport bike powered by a fuel-injected 155cc engine.
A two-valve cylinder head and air cooling keep things simple, with a respectable output of 14hp at 8,000rpm, and 14Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. While it might not tear up the twisties, it does have long legs thanks to a 12L fuel tank and a fuel economy rating of 50.2km/L.
Further adding to the simplicity is a tried-and-true five-speed manual transmission, front and rear disc brakes, but no antilock braking system or traction control.
The cockpit features raised clip-on handlebars so as to be comfortable for long rides, while the five-point-mount Diamond Frame is both light and stiff. A separate seat and a dual exhaust muffler mimic the aesthetic of its bigger siblings.
Weighing in at 146kg and with a seat height of 795mm, the SF 155 can fool the casual onlooker into thinking that it’s a bigger-displacement bike. A fully digital instrument panel, LED headlight and taillights, and preload adjustable rear suspension are welcome features.
While the conservative spec might turn off buyers looking for a little more sizzle, it helps keep the price down to just P114,900.
Two colorways are available: Pearl Glacier White/Metallic Triton Blue and Glass Sparkle Black. And if you want an even cheaper option, the naked Gixxer 155 is just P104,900.
While the Philippine market is dominated by scooters, these traditional backbone-frame, manual-transmission bikes might just lure more than a few buyers into a more involving experience.
