Motorists should expect higher toll fees on NLEX beginning November 25. The Toll Regulatory Board recently approved a rate hike as the expressway’s operator concluded the construction of the Harbor Link section last June. The elevated roadway expands the NLEX’s reach to Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela.

Motorists using the open system, which covers Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Meycauayan and Marilao, will have to pay P4 more for Class 1 cars. Class 2 and Class 3 vehicle users are to shell out an additional P10 and P11, respectively.

For those making use of the closed system for longer journeys, there is a P0.06 increase for every kilometer traveled. This means that for end-to-end travel between Metro Manila and Mabalacat, Pampanga, drivers are expected to pay P9, P20 and P25 more for each respective vehicle class.

The NLEX toll hike will not include SCTEX toll fees. Best to recheck your RFID balance if you plan on taking a long drive from November 25 onward.
