During the week of this year’s Belgian Grand Prix, Alpine announced that Bruno Famin would leave his role as team principal so he could work on the other motorsport ventures of the Renault Group. And starting next month, he will be replaced by Oliver Oakes.
Oakes, now 36 years old, began his motorsport career as a driver. He became karting world champion in 2005 at the age of 17, before joining the Red Bull Junior Team. He then competed in single-seater categories such as Formula BMW, British Formula 3 International Series, and GP3 Series.
In 2011, he shifted from driving to management and eventually formed Hitech Grand Prix in 2015. The team competes in junior categories with notable drivers such as George Russell, Liam Lawson, Nikita Mazepin, and Bianca Bustamante.

“It is a pleasure to welcome Oli to the team and for him to become one of the youngest team principals that this sport has ever seen,” said Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo. “This team is being built for future success, and this is highlighted by Oli’s appointment in a senior role. We look forward to harnessing his enthusiasm, energy, and passion for racing and realizing that mindset across the entire team.”
Do you think Oliver Oakes is the right person to lead Alpine’s F1 team?
