LTO: Temporary plates allowed until the end of 2024

Official license plates reportedly sitting at dealerships unclaimed

If you haven’t been living under a rock, then the ongoing issues with the production and the distribution of license plates shouldn’t come as a surprise. And in the very likely event that your vehicle still doesn’t have its official tags, the Land Transportation Office is allowing the use of temporary number plates until the end of this year.

The agency claims that there is no longer a backlog of plates for four-wheel vehicles, and an initial investigation has revealed that plates are apparently stockpiled at dealerships waiting to be picked up. As a result, owners are being urged to claim their plates as soon as possible.

Additionally, the LTO says that it is currently focusing on the manufacture of motorcycle plates to comply with President Bongbong Marcos’s order of eliminating the backlog by June 2025.
