LTO: No need to rush transferring your vehicle’s ownership (again)

Administrative Order No. AO-VDM-2024-046 has been suspended

Have you bought or sold a secondhand vehicle recently? PHOTO FROM BRETT HONDOW/PIXABAY

A little over a month ago, the Land Transportation Office released an administrative order mandating vehicle sellers and buyers to process ownership transfers on time. Big fines awaited those who procrastinated, and the whole thing was supposed to deter the use of open deeds of sale.

But the motoring public’s favorite government agency has just suspended the AO. According to this statement, it needed to work on extending the compliance period and getting the information out to a wider audience. But if you’ve lived in the Philippines long enough, you know that this is just a lousy excuse for fucking up dropping the ball.

We pointed out in our previous article that the online portal where the transfer documents were supposed to be uploaded was nowhere to be seen. There were some ambiguities in the penalties as well. These issues remain unresolved as of this writing. Unsurprisingly, it seems like the LTO has decided that it could not be bothered to fix them anymore.

Care to guess what the next episode of this sad circus will be?
