While Geely Motor Philippines is busy getting itself back on track, the Geely Holding Group has just boldly announced that it wants to sell more than five million vehicles annually by 2027. As first reported in Reuters, five million in annual sales would be around 79% growth compared to its 2023 sales of 2.79 million units, composed of both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

Geely Holding sold three million vehicles from January to November of 2024 (no data yet for December sales), a 20% improvement on the same period in 2023. Five million in annual sales would put Geely Holding among the top 10 auto manufacturers in the world.

While the final tally for 2024 has not yet been reported, BYD posted record sales of 4.27 million electrified vehicles (hybrid, PHEV, and BEV).

Geely aims to achieve its lofty goal by consolidating its wide array of passenger car brands into just two: Geely Auto and Zeekr Technology. The Chinese company announced earlier that Lynk & Co would be merged with Zeekr. With Lotus Cars, Smart, Volvo, and Polestar in its portfolio, it’s unclear how these will be affected by the strategy, if at all.

However, Geely has stated that research and development—which currently has independent teams per brand—will be consolidated to improve efficiency. This includes key technologies such as smart driving AI, cockpit design, batteries, and chassis architecture.

Geely Auto CEO Gan Jiaoyue told investors that their sales target for 2025 was 2.71 million units, while Zeekr CEO An Conghui disclosed that they aim to sell 320,000 units this year.
