Geely has been cooking up a return to the Philippine market after its contract with its last distributor Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) ended last year. Earlier this week, the Chinese brand celebrated its official reentry into the local market under the new Geely Motor Philippines (GMP) banner.

GMP president Will Wan took center stage to welcome the media and Geely owners as the brand ushers in a new era. This year, it targets at least one new model unveil per quarter, possibly including the highlight of the event: the Geely EX5.

Based on Geely’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture, the five-seater electric crossover is powered by a 60.2kWh battery pack producing 218hp and 320Nm. The short blade-battery technology boasts a 10%-to-80% charge in 28 minutes.

Aside from the EX5, GMP also announced a revamped price and variant list to the current lineup. The Emgrand sedan ditches the S and Comfort variants for the top Luxury trim, while the Coolray now includes a base Comfort Plus version.

After experiencing ups and downs in the past five years, Geely Motor Philippines reassures that this comeback will stick around with improved customer service and sales through its new business model.
