We wish we had this back in the day

As a car enthusiast, have you ever wondered what it’s like in the service department at the dealership?

Toyota Alabang Inc. (TAI) has hosted a “Kids Tech” workshop at its service center in Las Piñas. Partnering with Toyota Motor Philippines, they aim to bring the program to children aged four to 18.

TMP invited us to witness the program, designed to give kids an experience of what it’s like to be a Toyota technician for a day.

Starting with a simple yet educational brief, the workshop proceeded to discuss how a car works, and showcase Toyota Safety Sense through videos and presentations.

We reminisced about our college days when we studied automotive technology at TUP Manila. Most of the facilities were similar to those at the university, as part of our college consisted of Toyota Tech resources.

Seeing the kids with tools, disassembling the engine cylinder head, learning about safety, discerning the parts of a car inside and out, and basically having fun brought us back to the days when we were in the children’s position.

In the end, after all the activities, the kids were given a “Certified Toyota Alabang Kids Technician” pin. They also received a toolkit to kick-start the automotive interest in more hands-on DIY hobbies.

This program should be introduced to more dealers. It’s a unique way to spend time with a child (and their parents). Would you let your kid try this?
