Oscar Piastri jumps ship to McLaren for 2023

A fellow Aussie will take Daniel Ricciardo’s vacant seat

Will this young, up-and-coming Aussie be better than the Honey Badger? PHOTO FROM FORMULA 2

If you’ve been following the Formula 1 driver market, you might have seen this coming after Daniel Ricciardo’s departure from McLaren. After a series of sudden and unexpected driver changes and retirements, we now finally know what will happen to Oscar Piastri, who (to no one’s surprise) is now fulfilling that empty seat.

The Aussie will join Lando Norris for a multiyear deal, racing for McLaren for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. This was after the Contract Recognition Board ruled and “issued a Unanimous Decision that the only Contract to be recognized by the Board is the Contract between McLaren Racing Limited and Mr. Piastri dated 4 July 2022.”

And as for Alpine, the team acknowledges the decision that the CRB has made, and will “announce their full 2023 driver lineup in due course.” We’re hoping the Honey Badger manages to fill in that spot, as he is a driver who still more than deserves a seat for the next season.
