Anticipation for the Toyota Tamaraw is at an all-time high. People are eagerly awaiting the return of the legendary (and very Filipino) nameplate to our roads. Aside from numerous teasers posted on its social media channels, Toyota Motor Philippines is keeping consumers excited by unveiling the specifications of the upcoming model.

The Tamaraw will have two chassis lengths, as weve previously told you. The long-wheelbase model is around 5.3m long and will be paired with two iterations of the 2GD-FTV 2.4-liter turbodiesel. The standard version has 148hp and 343Nm, and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. It will come with the following selection of rear bodies:

  • Utility van (2+12 occupants)
  • Dropside
  • Aluminum van

Interestingly, the Tamaraw LWB has an upper-spec variant. Its powertrain consists of an uprated 2GD-FTV (400Nm) and a six-speed automatic gearbox. It also has more equipment like alloy wheels, a head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED headlights, and antilock brakes. The standard rear body is a dropside cargo bed with raised side panels.

On the other hand, the short-wheelbase version is just under 4.8m long. Instead of a turbodiesel, there is a 1TR-FE 2.0-liter gasoline engine under the hood. It’s good for 137hp and 183Nm, and drive is delivered to the rear axle by a five-speed manual transmission. We think Toyota chose such a powertrain setup to lower the sticker price and cater to buyers with tighter budgets.

The following standard rear bodies are available for the Tamaraw SWB:

  • Utility van (2+10 occupants)
  • Dropside
  • Aluminum van

There is also a wide variety of custom rear bodies on offer for specialized applications like reefer vans, ambulances, and food trucks.

While prices haven’t been revealed, Toyota is keen on making ownership of the Tamaraw as easy as possible by offering flexible payment options. With its Kabuhayan on Wheelsfinancing scheme, buyers can avail themselves of a reduced down payment of just 10%, payment terms of up to 84 months, and their choice of weekly or monthly payments. Customers can also trade in their existing vehicle through the T-Sure program.

Toyota is keeping mum on the launch date (although an executive has told us it will be in the fourth quarter). In the meantime, if you want more details about the Tamaraw, you can visit this website or inquire at your preferred authorized dealership.
