Toyota has always used motorsports to put its performance cars through their paces. And the rally-bred GR Yaris is a testament to that.

Nearly four years since its official launch in the country, the 2025 GR Yaris gets quite the upgrade.

The 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo now has a maximum output of 276hp and a maximum torque of 390Nm (up from 257hp and 360Nm). Other enhancements are the drive mode select, the new sub-radiator, and the intercooler spray for additional cooling.

Along with the six-speed manual (with Adaptive Cruise Control), it’s now paired with an eight-speed direct-shift automatic transmission (with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control). Ironically, the GR Supra was finally offered with a manual gearbox just a few days ago.

Inside, the dashboard displays and design are more focused toward the driver. In fact, the prominent rectangular housing gives the cockpit a ’90s rally-car vibe. It’s also a refreshing break from what is typically curved around the interior. As a result of the new design, the seven-inch central display has been brought down for better visibility. Meanwhile, the cluster has been improved with a 12.3-inch TFT meter display with tire-pressure monitor.

Exterior-wise, the GR Yaris has a redesigned front bumper with larger air intakes for better cooling. Headlights are moderately tweaked, while the taillight design has a more obvious revision.

Apart from Super White, Emotional Red, and Precious Black, Precious Metal is offered for the first time.

The new GR Yaris has a starting price of P3,391,000 for the manual, and P3,550,000 for the automatic. Retail sales have started at Toyota GR Performance dealerships.

You can view it on the first leg of the 2025 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup on March 22 at Clark International Speedway. Admission is free.
