If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. With strong sales and no all-new models in the pipeline yet, Subaru decided to spruce up some of its bestsellers with eye-catching bodykit and wheels.
Unveiled at this year’s Singapore Motor Show, the GT Edition for the Crosstrek e-Boxer 2.0i-S EyeSight Hybrid model gets front, rear, and side under spoilers; revised 18-inch alloy wheels; and a new roof spoiler for a striking aesthetic.
The cabin is spruced up with two-tone gray leather upholstery with red accents, contrast white stitching, and perforations, along with GT Edition logos on the seats.
Likewise, the WRX Sedan and Wagon GT Editions receive aerodynamic extensions to the front, sides, and back along with an STI grille. The prototype units on display also wore forged alloy Rays wheels—black on the sedan, white on the wagon—but we don’t know if these will make it to the final production spec (we hope they do, of course).
Styling for the GT Edition was led by Masahiko Kobayashi from engineering firm Giken Co. Ltd. Kobayashi was part of the original team behind Subaru production car designs for over 12 models, including the WRX STI. His involvement in the GT Edition for select Asia-Pacific Subaru models is clearly evident in the strong JDM look of the WRX cars.
According to Glenn Tan, deputy chairman and managing director of Tan Chong International Limited (the group that owns Motor Image, the distributor of Subaru in Asia), we can expect to see the GT Edition WRX Sedan and Wagon at this year’s Manila International Auto Show.
There are no plans yet to introduce the Crosstrek e-Boxer Hybrid (GT Edition or otherwise) in the Philippines. Given Subaru’s bullish outlook on the Philippine market and our penchant for limited-edition performance cars, we think the GT Edition would be a hit here.
