Mazda introduces the Roadster 35th Anniversary Edition

It comes in Artisan Red with a tan color scheme

At the Mazda Fan Festa 2024 held on October 19-20 at Fuji Speedway in Japan, the focus was all around the venerable Roadster (or MX-5/Miata). It also just happens that this is the 35th anniversary of the humble little convertible sports car.

So, it was just right that Mazda introduces a special edition to commemorate the occasion, which is the aptly named Roadster 35th Anniversary Edition, available in both the Soft Top and RF variants.

Based on the recent ND3 update, this variant comes in the special Takuminuri color known as Artisan Red. The deep burgundy hue is contrasted by bright-silver 17-inch wheels for the RF, and if you opt for the Soft Top, you get bright-silver 16-inch wheels and a light-tan canvas roof.

Most would probably opt for the classier Soft Top with the bright tan roof. PHOTOS BY SAM SURLA

This also extends to the interior, where the standard seats—sorry, no special Recaros this time—have a 35th anniversary logo embroidered on the headrest, the tan floor mats, and the Artisan Red interior accents. Other than that, it’s pretty much the standard affair, with no visible medallions, plates, or plaques in sight.

Specifications haven’t been announced at the event such as the engine size or other special equipment as this would most likely depend on the market. The rear right-side fender houses the plaque and the serial number of the car.

Do you think Artisan Red should become a standard color, or should it stay on the 35th anniversary model? PHOTOS BY SAM SURLA

It will most likely be a time-based special run (much like the MCP 25th) instead of a capped production run, seeing as this variant comes with very little unique equipment over the vanilla variant. And of course, it will most likely be a matter of when Mazda Philippines decides to bring this in.
