Electrification, diversification, and intelligence on display

Not even a storm could put a damper on the mood at the Toyota Motor Philippines booth as the country’s biggest auto manufacturer put up a truly impressive display of relevant automobiles for today and the near future.

With the theme of “Beyond Zero,” Toyota reiterated its commitment to sustainability and mobility for all.

More than just about reducing environmental impact with hybrids and zero-emission technology, “Beyond Zero” was about communicating the three pillars of Electrification, Diversification, and Intelligence.

With Electrification, Toyota introduced several methods intended to transition consumers from carbon-intensive fuels to zero-emission sources.

Mass-production hybrids like the Corolla Cross GR-S HEV, the Corolla Cross G HEV, the Zenix Q HEV, and the Yaris Cross S HEV were made available for test drives so that customers could see their viability in everyday driving.

Concepts like the Corolla Cross H2 showcased the use of hydrogen as a fuel for the internal-combustion engine, while the Kayoibako and the bZ4X were battery-electric vehicles. The former is a futuristic van that can be personalized to the user’s needs, whether as a cargo vehicle or a fully outfitted camper.

With Diversification, Toyota again demonstrated the various modes of alternative fuels, while also providing “Mobility For All” through the many possibilities with the Kayoibako.

On a more concrete level, the theme was greatly illustrated with many variations of the much-awaited Tamaraw. With its rugged engineering, proven drivetrains, and economical design, the modern-day Tamaraw fits the needs of the Filipino consumer and entrepreneur perfectly.

For the motor show, Toyota displayed the Tamaraw in several variations, including a food truck, a camper RV, a police patrol vehicle, a small flatbed with a trailer, a freezer truck, and an ambulance. With Toyota’s proven durability as its backbone, the Tamaraw is the one truck that can be many things to all sorts of users.

Finally, with Intelligence, Toyota manifested the use of data to reduce carbon footprints across systems and lifestyles. With extremely efficient combustion engines and batteries, it’s not just about short-term fuel savings but about real, tangible improvements and efficiencies that pay off in the long term.

In the near future, passenger vans like the Kayoibako may be as commonplace as the Hiace, but incorporating a highly efficient electric drivetrain along with advanced software and hardware to make it a truly safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

In a similar vein, the bZ4X began as a concept in 2021. A year later, the model went into production in other markets—proof that concepts really do become reality if they truly address the needs of the market.

And of course, the fact that hybrid versions of the Zenix, the Corolla Cross, and the Yaris Cross are now available—when they were once merely similar concepts—is further proof of Toyota’s seriousness in making environmentally responsible technology available to consumers.

A multi-path approach to going “Beyond Zero” yields solid results in ideas that become real and grounded in reality for the best possible outcome.

Toyota’s hybrid technology is highly regarded as an industry benchmark. It pioneered the technology many years ago, and today it is available in many of its mainstream nameplates.

Similarly, the secret to the Tamaraw’s broad appeal is the use of proven drivetrains and chassis engineering, thus lowering development costs and passing on these savings to the end user.

With “Beyond Zero,” Toyota showcases both current production cars and future concepts, coincident with customers’ growing awareness about the need to reduce their carbon footprint wherever and whenever possible. The vehicles presented by Toyota provide tangible results to that objective.
