Perhaps the biggest news in the local motoring community this weekend is the launch of Honda’s line of big motorbikes—or motorcycles with enough engine displacement to be allowed on the expressway. An impressive count of eight models was presented today at the Shangri-La hotel in Bonifacio Global City: CB500X, CB650F, CB1100EX, CBR500R, CBR1000RR Fireblade SP, CRF1000L Africa Twin, Rebel 500 and X-ADV.

All the models—except for the CB1100EX and the CBR1000RR Fireblade SP—are already available at the newly inaugurated Honda Big Bikes flagship store, Prestige Traders, located on EDSA corner Harvard Street in Makati City. The store is open from 8:30am to 6pm, seven days a week.

Next month, in January, these motorcycles will also be introduced in Cebu and Davao.

“Now is the time for the Philippines to enjoy the power and innovation of these motorcycles,” Honda Philippines president Daiki Mihara was quoted as saying.

Translation: “The traffic situation in the Philippines is so bad right now that we can’t think of a better time to sell nice, shiny motorcycles.”
