Mitsubishi bares 5-year plan for US market

Lineup could include a people carrier

While Japanese cars are very popular in the United States, one brand that has consistently struggled to get the attention of consumers is Mitsubishi. With an extremely limited portfolio of crossovers and economy cars, the firm is currently way behind the likes of Toyota and Honda in terms of sales. But the automaker wants to change that, and it has given itself five years to do so.

In its new business plan called “Momentum 2030,” Mitsubishi will launch at least one vehicle every year between 2026 and 2030. This includes updated versions of its current products, and two all-new models targeted at market segments that the company doesn’t compete in. It believes that such a strategy will increase sales by giving buyers more choices.

These upcoming models will be a mix of hybrids and battery-electric vehicles. If the teaser photo is anything to go by, it looks like the US might even get a people carrier like the Delica. What is clearly absent in Momentum 2030 is any kind of enthusiast-oriented product, so fans of the Lancer Evolution will have to look elsewhere for a performance car.
