When Stellantis was formed during the height of the pandemic, it promised that it would rejuvenate the struggling carmakers under its care. But it appears that things are not as rosy as the company wants it to be. And now, it has to deal with the abrupt departure of its chief executive, Carlos Tavares.
It looks like this development came about so suddenly that Stellantis didn’t have enough time to figure out what to do. The next CEO won’t be announced until the first half of 2025. Taking the driver’s seat at the firm in the meantime is an executive committee led by chairman John Elkann.
While Lancia’s revival might be a positive outcome of Stellantis’s strategy, the same cannot be said about the organization in general. Sales continue to be less than stellar (excuse the pun). In the US, dealers have even blamed Tavares for the supposed deterioration of Jeep, Ram, Dodge, and Chrysler in the domestic market.
