Two employees of SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation have confirmed to VISOR that the BMW distributor is about to have a leadership change.

According to both sources, Spencer Yu has resigned earlier this week as company president, and taking his place is 24-year-old Jacob Ang, the youngest son of Ramon S. Ang. The firm is expected to formally announce the surprising news on Monday.

The youthful Ang should be a breath of fresh air for the company. Our sources have expressed 100% support for him, both believing that he will be very good for “the low morale” of team members.

“Despite being young, Jacob has sound decision-making,” one of our informants told us.

Besides taking over the helm of SMCACDC, Jacob is also rumored to be the boyfriend of Atasha Muhlach.

This development is startling to us as we’ve always regarded Yu as being RSA’s trusted man in his automotive business. Last year, we joined Yu and the Ang father-and-son tandem in a brief trip to Japan as they checked out a potential automotive opportunity.

Before joining the BMW distributor, Yu had been the sales director of Lexus Manila. He had also been RSA’s favorite car salesman beginning with his stint at Honda Makati.

This should be the talk of the industry this coming week. Whatever we might hear from the grapevine, we wish both gentlemen all the best.
