We’re all familiar with the Suzuki Jimny 5-Door as sales began in the Philippine market last year. However, you might be surprised that it didn’t debut in Japan. Usually, Indian-sourced models weren’t released in the brand’s home country until recently with the Fronx crossover.
Good news: The Maruti-assembled tiny SUV will finally reach Japanese shores bearing the name Jimny Nomade to differentiate it from the kei-regulated Jimny and wider Jimny Sierra.

Like the local model, the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and its 102hp output were left untouched with the same choices of a five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic transmission. Sans the right-hand-drive configuration, the dashboard also remains familiar with the utilitarian instrument cluster and the nine-inch infotainment screen.
A significant addition to the JDM-spec five-door Jimny is the inclusion of Suzuki Safety Support to comply with Japanese regulations promoting advanced driver-assistance systems. The suite includes automated emergency braking, vehicle-in-front departure warning, lane departure warning, and cruise control.

In true JDM fashion, Suzuki also provides OEM accessories and decals for the Jimny Nomade. The Rhino Style contains flashier options than the local version, bearing larger rhino logos, steelie-inspired wheels, and a gigantic badge.
The Urban Edge and the Metal Style tone down the bombastic off-road nature with chrome accents and concave five-spoke wheels. Those seeking subtler ways to enhance their Jimny can choose from six distinct spare-tire wheel covers with “Nomade” inscribed.

The Jimny Nomade will begin exporting from Suzuki’s Gurgaon plant, with sales in Japan commencing on April 3. As Suzuki Safety Support becomes available in the Indian lineup for the Japanese market, can we expect it to be applied to future models in the Philippine market soon?
