BMW Motorrad Philippines has unveiled the BMW R12 S in an intimate gathering at Oliver’s Coffee Bistro, marking a significant moment for classic motorcycle enthusiasts in the country.

The event showcased the stunning new motorcycle, highlighting its blend of classic design and modern technology. The launch was made even more special with the presence of Opoy Gaw‘s meticulously preserved BMW R90 S. This iconic machine, a legend in its own right, stood alongside the BMW R12 S, bridging the gap between BMW Motorrad’s rich heritage and its contemporary innovations. Such a marvelous sight to see bikes from two different era.

The R90 S, produced from 1973 to 1976, was revered for its distinctive design and performance.

It was one of the fastest production motorcycles of its time, known for its aerodynamic fairing and striking Daytona Orange paint scheme. The R90 S set a benchmark for sport touring motorcycles, influencing generations of riders and designs.

The R12 S draws inspiration from this legacy, embodying the spirit of the R90 S while incorporating modern-day technology.

Both bikes share a commitment to performance, a focus on rider experience, and a visually appealing aesthetic that stands out. The R12 S, however, brings this heritage into the modern era with advanced features.

The R12 S boasts a powerful boxer engine, 1,170cc with 109hp and 115Nm of torque. Key modern tech features include:

Advanced electronics: Ride-by-wire throttle, multiple riding modes (Rain, Road, Dynamic), a bunch of safety and tech features like hill start control assist, shift assistant pro, heated grips, cruise control, and lean-sensitive adaptive headlight. As standard, it also comes with ABS pro, dynamic traction control, tire pressure control, and connected ride control.

Modern instrumentation: A digital display with a 3.5-inch micro-TFT to complement the simple and sophisticated style of the R90 S.

Optional keyless ride: Enhanced comfort and ease of use.

The R12 S combines these features with a stripped-down, roadster design, emphasizing its sporty character and rider-focused ergonomics.

BMW Motorrad Philippines marketing manager Nico Ylanan shared that only 20 units of the R12 S will be available in the Philippines.

This limited availability adds to the bike’s exclusivity, especially considering its global sell-out status. The SRP for the R12 S has been announced to be P1,625,000.

The new roadster also comes with a five-year/500,000km comprehensive BMW Motorrad warranty.
