It seems the Land Transportation Office is dead serious in its campaign for road safety. After Marilaque’s infamous “Superman” incident, the agency has now also suspended Angkas CEO (and Angkasangga party-list first nominee) George Royeca’s driving license for 90 days.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza broke this news in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo. He noted that Royeca’s admission of organizing the event was enough to make him liable for the incident and lose his driving privileges.

However, Mendoza clarified that Royeca still has the right to file a motion for reconsideration, which will be tackled by the agency if and when that happens. But the motorcade’s participants aren’t completely off the hook yet as an investigation is still ongoing.

Mendoza reiterated that the agency is serious about its road safety campaign as they are looking into the reports they received, not just in Metro Manila and Luzon but also in Visayas and Mindanao.

Royeca posted an apology video a day after the event, taking responsibility for the “mistakes” of participating riders and supporters. He promised to “fully cooperate” with the authorities to resolve the matter.

The incident became viral after we posted on our Facebook page a video submitted to us by a reader. As we publish this story, the video already has 6.7 million views.

However, Royeca failed to mention their group’s course of action against participants who knowingly and intentionally violated traffic laws. While he did the right thing by cooperating the authorities, this apology and his license’s suspension will mean nothing if he shields the others involved in this blatant disrespect for our traffic laws.

Then again, isn’t this just all for show to help the guy with his political ambition?
