Motorcycle training gets a boost as Move It backs MMDA’s riding academy

A good collaboration to help train the next generation of riders

The motorcycle taxi company Move It has donated brand-new helmets to MMDA’s Motorcycle Riding Academy (MRA) in an effort aimed to make two-wheel training courses more accessible to aspiring and current riders.

The MRA offers free riding lessons taught by expert instructors, covering both beginner and advanced skills. While participants are required to bring their own gear, Move It’s donation helps ease that burden, ensuring more riders can join without having to worry about helmet costs.

This latest move is just one of many collaborations between Move It and MMDA. The company has previously worked with the agency to facilitate various road safety courses, both through in-person training and its own Move It Academy, an in-app learning platform for rider-partners. Move It has also contributed training equipment such as agility cones, rider vests, and tents to the MRA.

With the number of motorcycle riders growing daily—whether for private use or ride-hailing services—Move It general manager Wayne Jacinto stresses the need for more safety education. He highlights that training programs like the MRA play a crucial role in building a safety-conscious riding culture, adding that road safety is a shared responsibility among transport stakeholders, from private companies to government agencies.

MMDA chairman Romando Artes also expresses gratitude for Move It’s support, emphasizing that partnerships like this strengthen the agency’s push for safer roads. According to Artes, a collective effort between the government and private transport operators is essential for fostering discipline and a safety-first mindset among riders. He also signifies that this will be the first of many joint initiatives between Move It and MMDA in 2025.
