How does a 5-year vehicle warranty sound if you’re buying a Toyota?

The market leader has upped its previous three-year warranty

Because we are a Toyota country—almost half of our car market is owned by the Japanese automaker—we have long been used to the minimum warranty, which is three years or 100,000km (“whichever comes first,” as they say). But as time passes by, we now see car brands offering longer warranties.

And this is understandable. With new car brands (mostly Chinese) entering the market, more and more untested industry players need to prove the reliability of their products. So we started seeing five-year and seven-year vehicle warranties, and even a 10-year (no kidding) engine warranty. A three-year warranty now sounds like a joke.

Which brings us back to Toyota. The car manufacturer must now realize that popularity alone cannot sustain it against a wave of rivals that are steadily aiming at its market share. Surely, even the most loyal customers can be swayed by better and longer warranties. If a Chinese brand can offer a seven-year warranty, what’s keeping the market leader stuck at three years?

Well, if you’re a die-hard Toyota fan (or indeed even just a casual car buyer), you will be happy to know that Toyota Motor Philippines has just announced its “five-year warranty.” This “extended warranty program” applies to all vehicles sold beginning this year.

Read the announcement for yourself:

Previously, Toyota vehicles were covered by a three-Year or 100,000km warranty, whichever comes first. With the new Toyota five-year warranty, customers can get up to two (2) years or 40,000km of additional warranty provided that they are able to avail the minimum number of Periodic Maintenance Services (PMS) during the three-year warranty period, with at least one (1) PMS per year at any Toyota dealer.

All Toyota models released January 1, 2025, onwards and all Toyota vehicles under contract with Kinto One or Kinto One Business starting January 1, 2025, may qualify for the Toyota five-year warranty.

Customers who will avail of at least six (6) PMS at any Toyota dealer with at least one (1) PMS per year during the three-year or 100,000km warranty period will qualify for the fourth-year full coverage additional warranty, which has the same coverage as the three-year or 100,000km warranty. However, for customers who will avail of less than six (6) PMS, they will qualify for the fourth-year limited coverage additional warranty on the condition that they were able to avail three to five PMS with at least one (1) PMS per year at any Toyota dealer. The limited-coverage additional warranty does not cover wear-and-tear parts related to suspension, steering, and brake systems.

Customers who are able to avail of the fourth-year full coverage additional warranty are eligible for an additional one (1) year or 20,000km extension on the fifth year provided that they were able to avail of at least two (2) PMS during the fourth-year ownership period. However, vehicles of customers that were only able to avail one (1) PMS during the fourth-year ownership period are qualified for the limited-coverage additional warranty only.

So you see, one of the excuses that some customers use when leaving Toyota for another brand is no more. The three-year warranty is now a thing of the past. Ask your Toyota dealer about it.
