Porsche presents new 99X Electric

It’s now purple

Porsche has taken the cover off its Formula E car for the next two seasons—the 99X Electric.

The most obvious change? It’s now decked in Purple Sky Metallic, the presentation color of the Taycan Turbo GT (the most powerful production car Porsche has ever built). The new color exhibits the brand’s electric direction.

Another noticeable change is the front wing, with the aim of making it sturdier against contacts.

Meanwhile, exclusive supplier Hankook has produced higher-performance iON Race tires to cope with the expected higher speeds in the coming season.

These are some of the regulations for the updated third-generation Formula E cars, dubbed Gen3 Evo.

Florian Modlinger, director of Factory Motorsport Formula E, shares: “The biggest development task was and is the implementation of the temporary all-wheel drive. On the one hand, we want to maximize acceleration and cornering speeds with the all-wheel drive. On the other hand, the goal is to not consume too much energy and to keep the car balance to the liking of the drivers.”

Switching from rear- to all-wheel drive as efficiently as possible is a welcome challenge, and should make the racing even more interesting.

With Porsche Works driver Pascal Wehrlein winning the drivers’ championship last season, he will have the number “1” on the nose of his new 99X Electric.
