Over a month ago, Nissan announced plans to launch several new energy vehicles for the next two fiscal years. The first model was the one that started it all for the Japanese carmaker—the all-new Leaf.
At the 2025 Auto Shanghai, Nissan has unveiled the second NEV in the pipeline: the all-new Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid truck. So, what can this new pickup offer?

The truck is 5,520mm long, 1,960mm wide, and 1,950 mm tall—making it longer, wider, and taller than the current-generation Navara. The 3,000mm wheelbase is also longer, while the bed is slightly bigger than what the current NP300 has.
Outside, the truck looks modern, but has styling elements that serve as a nod to its predecessors. For one, the truck has five LED light elements that span its width, three of which draw inspiration from the slots of the D21 Hardbody pickup’s hood.

The sides are all boxy, with character lines broken by the doors. In this view, the front and rear light clusters mirror each other. It has a two-tone paint job, while the lower parts get plastic cladding. A set of unique 18-inch rims wrapped in 265/65 rubber comes standard on all variants.
The rear lighting elements mimic the general layout of the ones in front, only that the lightbar is broken by a spelled-out Nissan badge in the middle. The rear bumper also has a silver trim that perfectly accentuates its styling.

The truck’s interior is loaded with new tech and features. The ones that stand out are a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a huge 14.6-inch infotainment screen, and a panoramic roof.
It also has nice add-ons like heated and ventilated front seats with a seat-back massage feature, while an electronically retractable cargo cover will keep your belongings from prying eyes.

Powering the Frontier Pro PHEV is a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and a transmission-mounted electric motor. Together, the power units deliver up to 402hp and 800Nm of torque. Nissan did not provide fuel consumption figures just yet, but the hybrid battery alone, when fully charged, is targeted to deliver up to 135km of all-electric driving range.
That much power is sent to all four wheels by a Dedicated Hybrid Transmission and an Intelligent AWD system. The rear differential comes with an electromechanical diff lock, while the transfer case comes with Nissan’s Terrain On Demand feature (on top of the 4High and 4Low modes).

This electrified model also comes with a Vehicle-to-Load system, featuring outlets in the cargo area. The Frontier Pro is the Japanese automaker’s first-ever electrified pickup truck, codeveloped with Zhengzhou Nissan—hence the familiar drivetrain configurations, similar to other Chinese models.
The pickup will be produced and sold in the Chinese market before the year ends. We will all have to wait for a future announcement to know if our country is included in the list of markets where the truck will be exported.

We hope that Nissan Philippines will eventually bring the Frontier Pro PHEV to our shores. Because if that happens, the pickup wars will be much more exciting.
