If the last few months of 2021 were about the arrival of numerous train sets, it seems that the new trend for the first days of 2022 is the reporting (or posting) of progress for transport infrastructure.

The Department of Transportation’s communications chief Goddes Hope Oliveros-Libiran recently posted about MRT-7’s progress rate. And now, DOTr secretary Art Tugade wants netizens to know that the Cavite extension of LRT-1 is now 61.6% complete.

To give a bit of a refresher, construction of the LRT-1 Cavite extension project started last September 2019. This 11.7km rail line consists of eight new stations connecting Baclaran, Parañaque, and Bacoor, Cavite. It’s expected to cut down travel time to around 25 minutes (from one hour and 10 minutes) and increase the network’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.

Despite all the setbacks due to the pandemic restrictions and right-of-way issues, it looks on schedule for completion in mid-2022. The agency is also awaiting the delivery of a few more trains this year.

Like we said before, we should set politics aside and be glad that improvement of our public transport infrastructure is in full swing. Now, it’s the turn of the Metro Manila Subway project to report some progress.
