Volkswagen Multivan Kombi to arrive in PH soon

According to our source, it could come as early as July

Fans of the Volkswagen brand certainly have fond memories of the name 'Kombi'. PHOTO FROM VOLKSWAGEN

Looks like Volkswagen Philippines is on a roll these days. Fresh from releasing the T-Cross subcompact crossover, the local distributor of the German automaker is now preparing to introduce another new vehicle. As to whether it’s a new model globally, we can’t really say with 100% certainty.

We’re referring to what the company is calling the Multivan Kombi. It’s the brand’s popular passenger van that you probably know by another name (like Microbus or Transporter). Now, we can’t tell for sure if this is the outgoing T6 model, but we do know that VW has internationally unveiled the all-new T7 version (which is definitely not this vehicle).

“The Kombi was a popular fixture in the Philippines starting in the late 1950s and peaked in popularity in 1970 when it contributed to a total of 6,100 Volkswagens that were sold in that year alone, hoisting the German marque to become the number one seller in the local automobile market,” the official press release recalls.

As the press release is merely a teaser, not much is mentioned in it other than the fact that the distributor is planning to bring in the Multivan Kombi “this third quarter of 2021.” However, a reliable source has told us that the launch could take place as early as the month of July, barring any conflicts in scheduling. In fact, our informant shares that the actual units are already in the country—“in the port area” now as we write this.

No information about the specs or the pricing has been revealed. Needless to say, we will update you once we get more details.
