VinFast made history when the EV brand shipped 999 VF 8 units to the United States in 2022. Its reception was electrifying, with the car labeled as one of the “worst reviewed cars in America.” After four years, the manufacturer has introduced the EV’s second-generation model.

The VinFast VF 8 is a midsize SUV (the same class as the Toyota Fortuner), measuring 4,701mm by 1,872mm by 1,670mm, with a wheelbase of 2,840mm. It rolls on 19-inch wheels with a ground clearance of 170mm. The design language is known as “Tech Fluid,” emphasizing seamlessness, refinement, and a sense of motion.
The EV is propelled by a 170kW motor with 230Nm of torque, powered by a 60.13kWh battery with up to 500km of range. With fast charging, the state of charge can go from 10% to 70% in under 30 minutes. The suspension features Frequency Selective Dampers at the front and rear axles, allowing the car to adjust for different road conditions.

Inside, you’ll find a 12.9-inch infotainment system with a virtual assistant, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a Combi 1.0 air filter. The driver’s seat is power-adjustable, while the second row can recline and fold flat with a 60:40 split for more cargo space. Meanwhile, the advanced driver assistance system includes safety features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning, and a 360° camera.

The new VinFast VF 8 will be available in Vietnam first by late July, with a price of 999,000,000 Vietnamese Dong (or P2.3 million). The VF 8 is currently not offered by VinFast Philippines, but perhaps that could change with the introduction of this second-generation model. Given the experience and the milestones that VinFast has accumulated throughout the years, hopefully this model performs better.
