This Armormax Charger Hellcat police car is scary

An AK-47 or even a grenade won’t really bother it

The Dodge Charger Pursuit is one of the most ubiquitous vehicles in use by law enforcement agencies in the United States. Doing anything from state trooper tasks to highway patrol duties, the Charger has proven its worth in public service time and time again. But sometimes, the 370hp that the 5.7-liter V8 could muster leaves officers wanting for more. Especially when they’re chasing down anything with more than a straight-four under the hood.

Enter the Charger SRT Hellcat. It looks like a Charger. It drives like a Charger. It does what a Charger does—only much, much faster. And when the guys at Armormax of Utah thought of the ultimate pursuit vehicle, they didn’t have to look any further than the Charger Hellcat sitting at a local Dodge dealer’s lot.

To transform the rowdy Charger Hellcat into a tame member of the police department, Armormax has fitted the car with equipment that’s standard issue on regular police Chargers. The wheels are shod in run-flat tires. There is a heavy-duty bull bar in front for executing PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuvers with ease. The body is littered with strobe lights for that unmistakable police-car look. And the siren also comes with a public address system so that officers can talk some sense into the felon before they resort to lethal force.

But the similarities to the Charger Pursuit end there. In the interest of making the Charger SRT Hellcat indestructible in the line of duty, Armormax has thoughtfully equipped the car with an armoring package specially made for the car. This includes bullet-resistant glazing and body armor said to provide protection for up to high-powered rifles. This means that peppering this Hellcat with 7.62mm rounds from an AK-47 will not stop it. And don’t even think about popping a grenade underneath the car. The bomb blast protection upgrade will just ward it off.

All that armor protection essentially turns the Armormax Charger Hellcat into a tank. However, since a real tank can fight back, this car doesn’t just curl up behind its ballistic defenses like an armadillo. For starters, it can deploy tire spikes when a conventional spike strip fails to stop the fleeing suspect. The electrified door handles can zap anyone attempting to commandeer the car and Grand Theft Auto his way to freedom. And the best weapon of all? The 707hp supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 that can easily keep up with a juvenile delinquent going for a joyride in his mom’s Toyota Camry.

A lot of people have the tendency to bury the gas pedal when a police car comes up from behind, lights flashing and sirens blaring. But they had better think long and hard about mashing the accelerator when this SRT Charger Hellcat politely asks them to pull over for a simple traffic stop. And I mean really long and hard—unless they want to get themselves into a massive heap of trouble with the law.
