For a time now, the Nissan Note subcompact hatchback (or MPV) remains one of Japan’s top-selling vehicles. The current model, though, is quite old and the time is ripe for a totally new car. Well, Nissan has acknowledged that with the launching of the all-new Note.

The new Note, according to the Japanese carmaker, sports the “Timeless Japanese Futurism” of Nissan. The car shares its styling cues with the recently launched Ariya electric crossover. The slim four-element LED headlamps flank the updated V-motion grille with the new Nissan logo. The front has prominent creases while air dams can be found at either side of the bumper. The character lines at the sides are eye-catching, but not really over the top.

For two-tone color options, all pillars—even the roof—have been blacked out. The alloy wheels are edgy, yet stylish. The back end looks modern, too. Huge horizontal tail lamps make the rear bright and very visible, while a black tailgate garnish has the name “Nissan” spelled out. The rear bumper faux diffuser completes the classy rear end. There are 13 body colors available, including the flagship color Vivid Blue and a new finish called Opera Mauve.

The interior looks surprisingly good for a Nissan. Behind the tiller is a huge digital cluster with clear, legible information. Right beside it is the infotainment system. The newly designed steering wheel looks great, with buttons to control drive settings, display options, and the audio system. The slim HVAC vents look cool (pun intended) and the Zero Gravity seats should be comfortable on long commutes. The all-new Note also comes equipped with a number of nifty tech features like Nissan’s ProPilot with Navi-link and the Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite of safety systems.

Powering the all-new Note is an updated e-Power electric powertrain. As with the previous generation, an engine keeps the battery pack juiced up so it could power the electric motors in either the front or all four wheels. Improvements made in the powertrain produce 6% more power and 10% more torque. This ensures additional oomph, enhanced driving dynamics, and better efficiency.

In our crossover-crazy market, we’re sure that there’s still room for a good-looking, intelligent subcompact hatchback like this new Note. Here’s hoping Nissan will bring this car to our side of the motoring world.
