There is no denying that the Toyota Corolla Cross is a practical and reliable family car. But predictably, one thing that it can’t do well is go racing. But for some reason, this crossover will sort of find itself being driven in anger in the 2025 season of the Stock Car Pro Series in Brazil.
As the name suggests, the Stock Car Pro Series is somewhat like NASCAR. It is considered as the premier auto-racing championship in South America, and is even contested by former Formula 1 drivers like Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa. Aside from Brazil, races are held in neighboring Argentina and Uruguay.
Just like the NASCAR Camry, the Stock Car Corolla Cross is simply a regulation bodyshell made to look like the actual vehicle. Next year will see the debut of crossover-based machines in the championship, likely a result of the popularity of crossovers in the Brazilian market.
The series will also be switching to a different power unit in 2025. All Stock Car Pro Series vehicles will be equipped with a turbocharged 2.1-liter engine producing around 500hp. This will be replacing the naturally aspirated V8 currently in use.
