With demand for electric vehicles on a constant rise, automakers clearly want to snatch a big chunk of that segment. One of those firms is JAC Philippines, which has just launched the Ytterby today. It also has an interesting strategy to make its cute battery-powered runabout stand out from the crowd.

JAC’s so-called Bubble Aesthetics Design philosophy is clearly evident in the Ytterby. The vehicle’s rounded silhouette is complemented by a front fascia that wouldn’t scare off a fly.

There is even a laminated glass roof, which the company claims will not roast occupants to a crisp even under intense sunlight. Blacked-out door pillars and petal-spoked wheels complete the family-friendly look.

Perhaps the Ytterby’s unique selling proposition is its pair of variants. The base Air 405 trim level has a 94hp motor and a 41kWh battery good for 405km. The upmarket Pro 505 version gets by with a punchier 134hp and a 51.5kWh battery that can do 505km. The latter is also reportedly equipped with driver aids complying with Level 2 standards.

The battery can be fully charged in as fast as 7.5 hours with the supplied home charger. Furthermore, JAC is proud of the design of Ytterby’s powertrain unit. The mechanical and electronic components are combined into one compact module that supposedly makes the car more efficient on battery power, and more spacious for passengers and cargo.

Pricing for the Ytterby is as follows:

  • Air 405 – P1,195,000
  • Pro 505 – P1,320,000

Included with every unit is a six-year (or 150,000km) vehicle warranty and an eight-year (or 150,000km) powertrain guarantee. It is now available at all JAC dealerships across the country. Interested buyers in Metro Manila can view the Ytterby at the automaker’s newest branch in Pasig.
