Porsche Panamera sets new Nurburgring record for fastest executive car

The Turbo E-Hybrid sets a time of 7:24.17

Porsche has been busy of late. Prior to the launch of the all-new third-generation Panamera, the development team took a production-ready 972 Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid to the Nurburgring to set a new record time of 7:24.17.

This is the fastest in the luxury executive car segment, beating the previous-generation Panamera’s time by a considerable 5.64 seconds at the hands of professional Porsche test driver Lars Kern, who had previously set the record in this segment for Porsche’s older Panameras in 2016 and 2020.

Kern credits the Porsche Active Ride System making the biggest difference, allowing the Panamera with its considerable mass to remain flat in the technical sections of the Nordschleife.

When not setting new records, the very same system delivers new unparalleled levels of comfort for the all-new Panamera, where emphasis has been put on luxury and refinement.

The all-new Turbo E-Hybrid variant delivers an astounding 671hp of total system output and an even more incredulous 930Nm of torque.

There’s practically zero lag thanks to the electric motor filling in torque valleys, and allowing the Panamera to accelerate out of slow, tight corners like a bat out of hell. That’s enough to dispatch the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.2 seconds, all the way to a 315km/h top speed.

When not attempting new land-speed records, the same Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid also delivers a combined 92km of all-electric range coupled with a 140km/h all-electric top speed.

Granted that this is far from the base variant, but it shows just how fast this car can really go. PHOTOS FROM PORSCHE

The Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid that made the record run was very much stock, save for the mandatory safety equipment (racing seat, roll cage, and fire suppression).

Interestingly, it was equipped with middling 21-inch wheels (the smallest wheel option is 20 inches, and the largest is 22) fitted with 275/35 fronts and 325/30 rears on special-compound Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires (available as an option).

The car was also fitted with the Carbon Aero kit that reduces lift, particularly on the front axle, and a Gurney flap on the adaptive four-way rear spoiler to balance out downforce.

Do you want your executive express with a side of sports car? The all-new 972 Porsche Panamera is your latest choice.
