Lexus just made the IS sedan more desirable

The changes, thankfully, are not merely cosmetic in nature

The Lexus IS has always been a desirable sedan, and the current third-generation model is no exception. But the Japanese luxury automaker felt the need to spice things up some more, so here is the updated version.

While the changes are merely evolutionary, the new IS looks even more aggressive. Up front, the boomerang-shaped LED position lamps have been integrated into a slimmer headlight cluster, while a revised spindle grille gives the front clip a sportier look. Using the latest in body-stamping technology that’s exclusive to Lexus, new muscular fenders and lowered character lines adorn the car’s sides. The ‘L’ motif taillights stretch around the boot from flank to flank. New body colors—Sonic Iridium and Sonic Chrome—are now available. On the other hand, F Sport variant gets an exclusive Radiant Red Contrast Layering finish, a unique mesh-pattern grille and a deck lid spoiler.

Inside, there are subtle but notable changes to the cabin. The drive mode dial has been interchanged with the multimedia controls, now using a touch pad. A new 10.3-inch touchscreen display controls the multimedia system, which boasts Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and SmartDeviceLink. Interior two-tone trim colors have been updated, giving occupants the perception that the car is wider.

The new IS is also safer, thanks to the Lexus Safety System+. There are also improved versions of the Pre-Collision System, the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control and the Lane-Tracing Assist. Meanwhile, a new Road Sign Assist system has been added. In Japan, IS variants come with unique features like Low-Speed Acceleration Control and Driver Emergency Stop Assist.

Lexus engineers have tuned the car for various road conditions for a smoother driving experience. Enjoy better handling and ride quality with the IS’s increased body rigidity—achieved with the use of body supports, additional weld points, new swing-valve shock absorbers, hub bolts and new-design tires. The 2.0-liter turbo version now has adaptive transmission control for a more linear response, while throttle response for the hybrid version has been improved. Finally, Active Sound Control ensures quiet inside the cabin while letting some of the engine noise in.

The new Lexus IS will soon hit showrooms in various global markets. We hope this includes the Philippines.
